Hi Chris,
Thanks for your response...this kind of makes sense. If I write down my settings below could you let me know if I could have things set up any better with the 8GB RAM I have?:-
AE prefs:-
Max memory usage: 120% = 3.0GB
Max RAM cache size: 60% = 1.8GB
Enable disk cache: NOT TICKED (I only have one local HDD at the mo - would a local RAID-0 help as a disk cache in this situation?)
Nucleo prefs:-
Performance level: MAXIMUM
amount of RAM to leave free: 512MB
max CPUs: 4
Max BG RAM Cache size: 15.766667
If there's any tweaking you can see that would help that'd be great. Also - if I were to get another 4GB RAM to take my upto 12GB (3 per core) how much real difference would I see, before I request the purchase from my boss? I'm guessing with 4 cores there's no point having more than 12GB?
Other thing is - I read somewhere that AE can use 3.5GB RAM in OSX but mine's only seeing 3..is that right?
LASTLY - Another funny twist to this non-rendering comp saga is that I did a local TGA seq render last night *WITHOUT* nucleo and that also failed. These renders are all now failing at totally random points, so I don't think it's a particular layer causing it. One thing it did say on failiing the AE render was "failed to create 25,845 x 1880 pixel image buffer" !?! I'm pretty sure there's no layers of that size in my comp!
Does that make any sense?
Thanks again,
Jim.
