NP2 with 8c MacPro: Storage optimized?
by pixeleyed on Jul 27, 2007 at 1:37:42 pm

Hi there!

I have a 8core MacPro for FinalCut S2 & After Effects CS3 with NucleoPro2. Traditionally, the approach for file storage would mean I'd like to keep project files (on one drive) and media files (on scratch drives) separate. But I'm not sure what is the best approach to get the most out of my Mac with the access needs of 8cores now.

Apart from the System drive (that only contains system and Apps), I have 7 SATA drives to stripe to Raid0. But I don't want to place AE projects and graphic files on a single array with media files if that's not necessary.

The question is really: For 8cores with NucleoPro2, what would be the storage access bottleneck in my system for AE? Would 2 or 3 (or more) drive Raid0 be necessary for 8 cores to access AE project files optimally?

Here's the system config:
2x Quad Xeon 3GHz
4x2Gig + 2x512M RAM
ATI Radeon X1900 XT
1x 7200RPM SATAIII 500Gig System drive (Partitioned to use only first half of drive to keep speed up)
4x SATA II + 3 SATA III
AE8 + NucleoPro2
