timecode burn - cant apply

hi,
I am trying to encode 3 mpgs to send over to a client with timecode,
I have exported the source files from FCP as dv pal, but when I apply the burn timecode in episode and attempt to preview the file its says:

The Preview could not apply the burnt timecode filter to the movie.
Please change the settings for the filter.

This occurs using the mpg1 template that ships w episode, not changing it at all. And also if I try it with .wmv encode too?

Any ideas on this? have nested sequence and appplied TC generator filter to clip in FCP as a workaround but this is an extra step that I shouldnt need...

specs:

Episode 5.2.1
FCP 6.06

MacPro 2.66 hz dual core
