Please do. Generally I've found that using Software Update at any time can result in OS issues that are not always obvious and sometimes impacts only a specific app or workflow. It's obviously not common but software update sometimes doesn't cleanly update or replace OS components for various reasons. This isn't common but obviously the issue you're having isn't common either so I'd like to eliminate this as a possible cause.
