is Raid Shield pointless or not working

These things always seem to crop up Friday after 5:00
JUST installed HDOne - I ignored the disk it came with and used the updated software from the CalDigit site.
Seemed to go smoothly mounts on desktop. I thought I'd create 2 partitions (not sure if that's a good idea). So I tried opening Raid Shield to see if that was the place to do it but there seems to be nothing there.
When I go to Add controller it shows me the device but when I click on that, it asks me for a password.???
Going to "help" give me the message "Help index" -- this is not very helpful and there is no information I can find on the Caldigit site. At least nothing that even closely resembles this raid shield
So far very unimpressed with the documentation on this -- I guess they like to talk on the phone.
Anyway if anyone can help before Monday -- I was hoping to get started.. Should I partition this before I start capturing? If so how do I do it? What is the purpose of Raid Shield?
Thanks
