So, the CalDigit drives connect to the "server" and then are shared to the edit stations, right? Also, could a G5 Dual 2.0 work as the server?

Unless you use the ePCIe switch from Caldigit to connect the drives to both edit stations. However, I think that this is still more expensive, when you add the cost of the CalDigit switch and the cost of the san licenses.

In your initial post you mentioned a managed switch. Is this necessary? Will a small 8-port switch not do it?
