Thanks for the response.

The HDElement RAID 5 is on the full side (around 60%) compared to the 20% of the other system. But the 3 disk internal RAID 0 was completely empty when I tested. So based on that I would suspect the performance hit comes in on the overall performance of the card rather than the 'full-ness' of the drive.

I used Blackmagic Design's disk speed test utility to run the tests.

I am heading home now (end of the day here in South Africa) but will run some more extensive speed tests on the drives tomorrow and let you know my findings.
