media files gone "red"
by Michael Nikitin on Mar 18, 2009 at 7:51:25 pm

Hi guys,

I have a pretty long project in Color, exported from FCP via "Send To". I was far into grading it, when I had to start on a different project, also in Color. So I saved the project, removed the external hard drive where all the media, as well as Color project, and grades, were being stored, did that other gig, and now I'm back to project number one. Only, there is a slight problem... all the media in the timeline is showing up as missing. I could re-link the clips individually, but it would take forever -- there's a lot of them. It's a one hour long film. ;-)

So, my question is -- is there any way to re-link all the media at once, instead of going through the clips one-by-one?

Barring that... question number two. When I re-link the clips individually, the default place Color looks for them is in "/" Directory. So then I have to navigate all the way to the actual location where media is stored (on an external hard drive.) Is there any way to change that default preference in Color, so, at least, I won't have to spend half a minute on navigation for each clip, and instead, to have it default in the right place?

FYR, I did change all the preferences back to what they were when I started grading the project when I restarted. Also, something that I think might have to do with the problem I am experiencing, Color lists the external drive twice: as "External Drive" and "External Drive 1", where "External Drive 1" has today's date, and "External Drive" has the date when I last worked on the project.

Finally... what precautions should I take so that problems like this don't happen in the future?

Thanks in advance!

- Michael
