PAL is 720x576. You did nothing wrong. 1024x576 is PAL stretched to aspect 1 (or almost 1). You cannot record back to tape in 1024x576 because PAL doesn't support that res. Set your sequence to 720x575 anamorphic and you'll be ok. That is how your material was recorded.
