Not that it's much help but I have had the same problem. Not sure what was going on. I ended up saving the original grade in colo(u)r, and sending the individual clip again from a new timeline applying the grade and tweaking from there. Send back to FCP and copy/paste clip into the original timeline. Horrible work around but was pressed for time so needed to quickly get it out but was not desirable at all.
