Re: PAL broken in Color
by Rafael Amador on May 7, 2008 at 3:20:09 pm

Hi Walter,
I've been repeating the test to make sure I wouldn't miss nothing.
I did that only with bars generated by FC. Full PAL EBU bars.
The bars (YCbCr&RGB) re-imported to FC keeps perfect levels. Is only inside Color that the Proress bars shows those variations.

First I thought Color was translating Proress to RGB wrong. Now I'm not much sure is this is the problem.
Things change completely if I made the round trip to FC:
- The Prores bars that looks awful in Color looks well again in FC.
- The AJA RGB bars that were perfect inside Color, now looks terrible in FC.
However if I re-import the clips to Color they keep looking as before.
Little in clear for me:
- The two applications are "consistent" with their own renders. I mean when you reimport anything you get the same values in the Scopes.
- But this do not happens with the stuff render in the other application. There are always big changes in the scope.
What is curious is that if you do FC-Color-FC the bars ends looking well.
So no way to know if you are doing the things well or not while correcting PAL in Color? Or is FC?

Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
G5 2x2Gh 4GbRAM-BlackMagic Extreme
PMBP 17"Core2Duo 4GbRAM-AJA ioHD
JVC DTV-17"
SONY EX-1 . SONY PD170
..and always a big mess on top of the table.
