I spent 6 years as a tape editor so I know what you're talking about - thing is...The goalposts have shifted. Clients today want much more for their money than a couple of dissolves (3 machine editing!) and a whizzy Abekas A53 3d DVE. In my on line session today Ive had to create and comp smoke and flames - loads of stacked fx (its a Nat Geo show!) and on line 40 minutes as well as do astons, straps, credit roller, Clock and check and QC about 900 clips in a v complex time line. Thats what clients want today and if I couldnt provide it I wouldnt be here. Tape was great in the simple days but they're long gone and we need a platform to work that can accommodate these requiremenyts. MY quad G4 and FCP together with Motion and Shake help me to do this and they perform amazingly well. I spent 10 years as an Avid editor both on and offline and was constantly frustratred but the limitations of the system

Color Correction has always been the weak link in a non linear workflow and its hardly surprising that so many of us leaped onto the FT bandwagon. Problem was they hadnt screwed the wheels on tightly enough and they kept falling off.

Everything on my work station is per manufacturers spec - I spent alot of mony on High end video cards and Raid arrays - It would be reasonable to expect Final Touch to stick to its part of the bargain - still its so close now - lets hope Apple give us a few more updates!
