DVCPRO50 MADNESS

Is anyone else out there using DVCPRO50? I capture Beta SP footage to DVCPRO 50 using a kona LHE. I prefer DVCPRO50 to Prores, because I feel that prores SD is soft-- Plus the resolution of the dvcpro50 matches Native DV resolution, so it's much more smooth for mixing stuff in the same timeline (w/ DV)
Something is VERY wrong with color & DVCPRO50. When the file is rendered & played in quicktime, it looks all black, with just ocassional bright red "edging" When the timeline is exported to FCP, it shows as a deep red (nearly black) posterized version of the footage..
Obvious workaround is transcode footage to DV25 (which works) or Prores (which does as well, although color spits it back as 486 prores, though the transcodes are still 480)
I love my DVCPRO50-- more than prores for SD stuff. It would be a shame if I couldn't use color for my SP captures...
I have NOT created a strictly DVCPRO50 workflow to see if it "works" in that capacity-- all of my color projects have had at least DV & DVCPRO, if not DVCPRO HD (varicam) as well...
