I found the same problem with Final Cut Pro. In your open directory set up do you have the Users folder created on the computer that color is on or is the user folders created on the server? You can create a user over the network that has to be authenticated but still have the users folders on the main computer that way the network still controls user but the folders live on the hard drive of the computer you are using.
See if you can find out how the IT guy has it set up.
