One thing to understand is that there is no one all powerful setup overs-seeing your color destiny. It will be different for each type of media you are using. With that said, every job should start with some test files in final cut pro, I recommend a "Marcie Girl", some white, black, red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow, and bars. You can create these files in After Effects, use the eye dropper to make sure the colors are correct. Then put the files in a timeline in FCP, check the output of FCP on an external scope, now export to color and make sure all the signals are the same on both the Color scopes and the external scope and matching what you saw coming out of FCP. Now you should also render the files with no correction. Import back into FCP and check that they are the same as the originals. You should test this on a regular basis and at the start of each job. Because of the way QT handles Gamma, you may see a slight gamma shift in the bars, but the black should still be 0 black and white should be 100 white.
