Its possible that your "darker/grainier" issue is a scaling problem if you sent RGB dpx files and they sent you ProRes4444, which can be either RGB or Y'CbCr, but no way to flag the difference. Whatever application you are viewing the ProRes files with is likely assuming the wrong colorspace.
