The basic problem with graphics displays is that they are built to display text. They don't need to be consistent, reliable, persistent (that is, "hold" a calibration) or even pretend to emulate SMPTE/EBU phosphor performance. The best you can ever hope for is a "best guess" simulation, of which paying clients often take a very dim view. It is not illegal to force whatever solution into operation that you might want to inflict yourself with, but this is very definitely a case of horses for courses.
