while I recognize that the RED RAW workflow might have its advantages if the COLOR Primary In REDtab gave you a similar latitude for correction that OCN (Original Camera Negative) would have if hung on a good telecine...

RED sensor data is not even close to that, so IMO the REDtab workflow is rather over-rated and comes with several disadvantages. Principally, and almost equally , a primary correction cannot be pushed much higher than 90 IRE and cannot be pushed down to 0 IRE without interpolative artifacting. It is possible to generate serious noise if this is attempted. Following on, secondaries access the RAW data prior to metadata processing, (not the Primary In correction) at all, so HSL qualifications are very often impossible. The COLORFX room dos enjoy the benefit of concatenating the Primary In, but even generously cannot be described as an efficient secondaries workflow. Add the deBayer lag, and grading becomes a moving target. You might even think its done before moving on... but the real correction might finish after you have in fact jumped to another clip... but there will be a surprise waiting for you on review.
