I can't tell you the show names but I'm talking about cable reality shows for channels like Bravo, Discovery etc.....

I regularly grade 1 hour reality shows with Color in one 10 hour session - yes that's fast and it's not easy, and you have to make some compromises, take some shortcuts.....but having done a few hundred of these shows over the last few years I have gotten pretty good at it too......

I know that the shows I am grading were previously done in DaVinci rooms at major post houses for around the rate I quoted - that's room + Colorist. Maybe sometimes a cheaper rate was negotiated for a bulk deal of a whole series etc - but that is definitely the ballpark. The colorist would get around $600 - in line with what you stated - the rest I guess went to the post house.

Of course now companies can do this work in house with a $20,000 Color suite and just pay the colorist rate.

I can charge around $1400 for a 1 hour show that I do in my own Color suite. Again I might negotiate a little less per ep for a multi episode series deal.

Do not use Color unless you have a compatible video I/O device and broadcast monitor.
