Two things... maybe three...
How compressed (codec/bit depth, color components, etc.) is your original footage, and
which film recorder is the target? Lasers (ARRI) are pretty faithful.
What sort of MTF did the lenses you shot with have?
There have been a couple of discussions regarding how (almost) irrelevant "resolution" is with respect to the property we regard as sharpness. Its a "power" function in a mathematical sense and has more to do with contrast and hence the importance of a high-MTF lens.
I'd advise you to look at the HD media as big as you can project it. That will start revealing its true sharpness / weaknesses.
