I Got a 23" cinema display, did you use a probe to calibrate it? like a SpyderPro,

What's " axis, set-up" ?

So far I calibrated mine with the operating system preferences color calibration, and then MXO's proc amps controls, I'm getting a spyder elite soon to help abit, I used a gamma of 2.6 while creating a profile, but it still feels lifted somehow (bright in the mids) I'll have a better idea when I get the probe.

I'll leave the check against a crt last, I'll need to rent one.
