[Todd Jaspers] "Is you showing that picture performance art? What does the picture of that guy have to do with the thread, who is that guy? Is that a picture of you?

Um, no. I mistakenly thought it was you, since it comes up when clicking the "about me" link of what you list as your website in your Cow profile. I was hoping to see amazing examples of your work, but instead all I found was some annoying 20-something hipster giving me the Love Gun. Go figure.

I only ripped on your because your comments are totally amateur

In what way, exactly, are my comments "totally amateur?"

but I have been there, that is why even chimed in, I wish people had told me to shut up and quit whining when I first started out. I was trained as a colorist on a system that costs $600,000. I have also used Speedgrade and Scratch. So during this last economic crunch a few shops I used to freelance as a colorist/finisher/compositor closed down, so I was forced to start using COLOR at my small shop. I had the same comments at first, I wanted to COLOR to be a 100k color app, but once I shut up and learned to deal with the quarks, I was happy. COLOR moves pixels the same as any app out there, and fact is there are people at APPLE at the lowest and highest levels who know how to make COLOR better, but its not that easy. Apple is a huge company with a large task of taking over the computer world. YES, Apple COLOR has a lot lot lot to be fixed and desired, and it needs upgrades ASAP.
But if you zip your lip and learn how to use it, you will like it. And when the next upgrade comes you will be happy."

Either I'm really bad at expressing myself in writing or you have a severe reading comprehension deficit. How on earth did you get the idea that I was in any way ragging on Color? I love Color. I was seriously considering purchasing it back when it was Final Touch and it cost $5K for the HD version. Sure, it has some little annoyances and bugs, but I think it's a really great tool for a steal of a price. I don't claim that it's perfect, but there's really nothing nearly as good at its price point.

If you'll look back at some of your earlier posts on this forum, I was defending Color when you were bitching about it not being like a Pablo, DaVinci or Scratch.

What does annoy me is that some people bitch about Color not having more low end features, i.e. not supporting video out via Firewire, not having a UI that looks like other Apple apps, expecting it to run perfectly on a laptop or low end system when the recommended system specs are clearly advertised, etc. These are people who have never even heard of the high end grading systems you are so familiar with. These are people who complain that Color is hard to learn, hard to use and isn't like iMovie. People who expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter with no need to expend any effort or actually RTFM. You clearly don't fall into that category, so why are you so defensive?

A cursory review of your posting history on the Cow shows that you've habitually insulted or disrespected other forum users - calling Walter Biscardi "biscotti," for example. I haven't singled anyone out personally or commented specifically on their work. Even if you are a genius master colorist, insulting me personally by telling me that my work looks amateur and that I should go work at some big studios to hone my chops before I post isn't relevant to my original point. Nor is your comment about Star Wars fan films or badly acted and ill-conceived assassin movies. I'm not a writer, director nor actor. I do postproduction work, sometimes for very well-produced projects, sometimes not. Insulting me or others doesn't strengthen your position, it just makes you look like a jerk.

I also don't think that slaving away for a big studio is the only way to develop one's skills. That's why the Cow exists, to help people to learn and grow and benefit from the collective knowledge of experts in the field. There are many paths to success, and plenty of freelancers do quite well on their own without having gone to film school or having worked for a big studio.
