You would typically run both cameras into a switcher and record downstream from there...I believe that Focus Enhancements among others make FireWire switchers for this purpose. Recording conventional HD and recording to traditional video tape deck would mean going to HDSDI instead of FW which would be more costly to say the least.
On Location, which is the product which this forum is focused on, only records one feed from an incoming FW signal from DV, HDV, or a P2 capable DVC ProHD camera.
