Ipad 9.7" screen and descent audio quality and volume or Ipod Touch 3.5" screen and much less fidelity sound but listenable from a shirt pocket.
Ideally your better off with each exhibit with it's own dedicated audio device with an activation button. An Ipad could be used to show video along with audio to help explain each exhibit.
