How to simulate iPod "malfunction". (Classic 30GB)

I need to simulate a "malfunction" on a iPod Classic 30GB.
Please don't ask why. I leave it to your fancy. I can only tell
you that it will stay in the family.
Something to disable the iPod without damaging it.
A "write denial", or a "battery charge denial" will do.
And of course it should be software based: I prefer to avoid fiddling with the usb cable.
In the Web the Best can be found, and also the worst.
I feel somewhere in between. And I will enjoy every bit of it.
Thanks everybody.
