ipod skips, stops playing mid song, etc

hey there.

my ipod mini (i know...dinosaur)...has begun to act pretty funky as of late.

with no rhyme or reason it refuses to play some songs. i hit play and it just stays put at 0:00.

occasionally it will begin to play a song, but then stops half way through or begins to "skip" like a cd player would skip.

the odd thing is it only does it with certain songs, and there is no reason to why it does it. i can go back several hours later and it will play the same song fine that was messing up earlier.

i hard restarted it and reset all settings, but no dice.

bought to chunk the thing out the car window. any ideas?
