loading videos from iTunes to iTouch

I have iTunes 8 and an iTouch.
I have loaded Quicktime movies (my own AfterEffects stuff) into iTunes and they play fine on my computer. My problem is, iTouch won't accept the movies. Do I have to convert my .mov files to mp4? Or am I missing something obvious? Help!
