Problems w/ Used Bought Ipod

Hello all, I'm having problems with this new Ipod Classic 120Gb that I recently purchased from someone off ebay.
When I plugged it into my Pc, I recognized I didn't have any of my Smart Playlist. I only had the Music, Tv Shows and Movies. I later tried to create a new Smart Playlist for Recently Added, by having it sort by the Date Added and still nothing. The playlist was created, but nothing was added to it. But I started copying over files from my Itunes into my Ipod.
Everything worked fine for a while, then all of a sudden the cursor playing the music had a funny tracking symbols, and my Itunes froze. I would try to click to Eject my Ipod but the button would disappear and reappear. When I finally clicked on it, there was an error message saying it couldn't Eject because another program was using it. I had to keep trying and it finally worked, allowing me to eject it.
But I had to do a Ctrl+Alt+Del to close down Itunes. I could then plug my Ipod back up and transfer some more songs, but the same problem would occur. To my knowledge the Ipod was cleared of all data, I had to charge it from scratch again, but that was about it.
Can anyone help me get rid of this problem? I had a Ipod Nano 3rd generation before and never had this problem. Can you help me get my Smart Playlist back? And get ric of this Itunes freezing my Ipod thing? Thanks.
