Sorting of MP3's that start with numbers

Hello all,
I have a very large audio library (thousands of MP3s) that are part of a lecture series. The files start with a number followed by a file name that is something like "1234 File One" with the next file being numbered "1235 File Two". I have the 60 Gig video iPod that unfortunately does not properly sort files that start with a number. The result is an artist subdirectory files with files that play randomly. Is that my only choice or is that some way out of this mess?
