The screen size for the new ipods is 320x240 so I'm not sure why Apple would say that 300x300 is ok. Seems to me if you made graphics that size then the ipod may distort it but maybe not. I would probably compose my graphics in 320x240 and call it good however you could just do a test and see what happens at 300x300. Good luck.
