Quicktime default export settings for Podcast - Need help ASAP

I am exporting a video file that is about 16 minutes long. When I convert my movie file to an m4v using the default settings in quicktime player pro, my file is a whopping 189 megs. When I converted this same file for google video as mp4 it was 105 megs. Is this typical of the m4v format to be this much larger? If so, are the half hour news programs featured on iTunes approximately 500-600 megs? I use the latest version of Sorrenson Compression Suite for making flv's on my website and for making the google video files, but it doesn't allow export as m4v. Can anyone give me some guidance if the results I'm getting are typical. The "option" box seen during quicktime export from the player is grayed out, so really don't see a whole lot of options, but this file sure seems really big. Thanks.
