OGG Vorbis (two Gs). Personally, I swear by it. But usually, they end in a .ogg extension - it's actually a competing format to mp3. Technically, it's a more open license for the encode/decode algorithm, which is why it's preferred by many Linux applications. Also, I think the sound quality is supposed to be somewhat better than mp3 at the same filesize.
