Why can't itunes play my MP3?

hi,
i am using itunes for podcasting. Yet, it will not play my mp3 files.

it will download the mp3 file fine, but then an (!) comes up and it says, "the file might be corrupted, or a file type that ituens cannot play."

can someone help me fix this?
