Vegas: How to stop it from behaving on its own?

Having tons of problems lately with Vegas rendering the program unusable for me so also looking for recommendations for other products for video editing.
1. There is a blue arrow above the frame line, how do I remove this? Seems clicking it always highlights the entire video and moves the cursor to the start.
2. how to zoom in? When I zoom in it keeps auto zooming back out when I move the bar at the bottom.
3. When clicking above the frames to seek through the video files it often skips back to the start. how do I disable this?
4. How do I make it so the bar with the time or frame numbers is higher its so small requiring too much precision and if you miss click it auto goes back to the start.
5. Above the timeline is a grey bar with yellow triangles at either end how do I remove this?
6. I have a 2 minute video but the timeline is over 16 hours long, how do I get rid of all that empty space?
