Amanda DuffAdobe After Effects -v- Vegas

My son tells me Adobe After Effects is the best for editing xbox videos then putting on you-tube. Cany anyone tell me about the differences as far as a 14yo know using it goes and a frustrated Mum who can only help so much with computer knowledge. We have old version of Vegas but with xmas coming up I"m trying to decide which is best.
