Inserting JPEG's on timeline in Vegas 6 - quality problem

Hi,
I have recently got me a Panasonic LX2 digital still camera, 10 M pixels, My problem is that when I import the JPEGS from it into a Vegas 6 project, I get "shimmering"" effect on highlights in the frame, and on strong reflections. This dosen't get better with rendering, nor with rendering into MPEG2 and burning to DVD.
I'm probably missing something basic, I hope so anyway.
Any advice on what to try to solve this, or the technique to use for inserting JPEG's would be much appreciated.
Regards
Frank
