basic technical terms

Hi
Apologies if this question is too basic or in the wrong forum for any reason.
I have come across the following terms many times with regards to Avid editing and only been able to find differing or unclear definitions. If anyone could tell me what exactly these things are I'd be really appreciative.
Conforming (does this have different meanings?)
Laybacks
Playouts
Transcoding
Cadence
Stringouts
Drivers
Thank you!
