Working with rolling titles

I have a question concerning inserting rolling titles into the timeline of my project. I have done this several times before and I cannot remember how I did it. I am specifically looking to put my end credits of my project to a 30 second music clip at the end of my sequence and it isn't allowing me to shorten up the clip and make it fit my timeline and scroll at the appropriate speed. I thought that you simply marked in and out points on the timeline where you wanted the credits to go but that isn't working and I was wondering if anyone can help. Thanks!
