Producing a DVD can be a bit complicated.
Once you've finalized your edit in Premiere you'll want to export a DVD-Video compliant MPG file using Adobe Media Encoder under File/Export...
Desktop videos such as MOV or WMV or AVI are not DVD compliant.
You can burn a DVD right out of Premiere, but I'd recommend against it.
Use Premiere for editing.
Use Adobe Media Encoder or Main Concept MPEG Pro for encoding.
Use Adobe Encore for DVD authoring.
Use Nero or Toast, or whatever burning app you use to burn the DVD.
If I'm doing a project for both DVD and desktop delivery I'll export the DVD-video compliant MPEG, than export an uncompressed version of the video for resizing and encoding to a desktop format.
File types such as AVI, MOV, and MPG are like media containers. Generally they hold audio and video which are encoded by a CODEC (
CO
mpressor-
DEC
ompressor).
So, the movie file uses an audio codec and a video codec. These codecs are required when you encode or compress your movie, and they are required when you want to play the movie. Codecs are installed in your operating system or in digital video playback hardware such as a DVD player.
Try reading through the threads on this forum. There's a ton of information here.
