Color proofing activated by default?

Hi,
I'm having a problem with Photoshop CS3 that probably uncovers my lack of understanding of color profiles in general. Photoshop only (not other image viewers) shifts the color of images taken from cameras and I have to manually enable color proofing for each of them so I can see the correct colors again.
Is it possible to have it enabled by default?
