Water Vortex

I am trying to make a water surface spiral inward and the usual supects arent cooperating. By that I mean the spiral, twist and ripple effects. I've also tried liqify, and squizz with little success.

A sample of what I'm trying to do is here.

I know that water surface is critical but I'm finding photo resource for it limited at that level. Aslo this file needs to be high resolution so the brushes in liquify arent big enough to do the trick.

I also have avalable Cinema4D and have considered creating a model of this spiral as a last resort.

Any feedback would be great. I need some new options here.
