Illustrator to After effects

I am very new to after effects/animation in general. I chose very generic composition settings and was wondering what the difference between 'ntsc dv' 'ntsc d1' 'pal widescreen' etc. were. I am looking to have this final animation on a website and possibly a dvd. Are there specific settings for both illustrator and ae files alike that are best for my intentions? Sorry if I am vague.
Thanks
