After Effects isn't an editing application, like Final Cut or Avid or Premiere. That being said, you COULD edit an entire episode or film with it, but I don't know many (if any) people who would advise it. Each clip would require a new layer and a couple minutes into your project you'd be spending more time with the scroll wheel than actually doing work. Add in you don't have real time previews and you're looking at a lot longer process than working in an editing app.
Use AE for special effects, compositing, titling and graphics; basically what it's designed to do. You'll find it's an amazingly versatile program that can really enhance your films and projects and add a lot of production value as well.
