Camera Dilema, Following a Beam of Light ---Please Help!

I followed Andrew Craimer's tutorial on building a beam of light through using Trapcode Particular and that went smoothly.
But now, I've tried to create controlled 'beam movements' where the beams (aren't at a random wiggle) but would 'take the camera' to different 2D images in space. I'm trying to coordinate this with music and also trying follow the fast traveling beam with a camera. As you can imagine, doing this with keyframes is really hard to do.
I've heard about null objects and getting the camera to follow these but I want the camera to automatically center on the beam 30seconds into the composition (after my manual keyframes).
Does anyone know how to follow this beam of light (object) automatically with the camera??
(Please be detailed :)
Thanks!
(I have a picture if you need one for visualization)
