Go to the end of the 2 second bit...

go into the precomp

hold shift and drag your work area's right slider to the left until it "snaps" to the current time indicator

you can leave it like that and edit, or just trim comp to work area...

I hope I understood the question.. if so, there's a working answer for ya :)
