Adobe Transfer Modes

Does anyone know of an article explaining Adobe's Transfer Modes with detailed descriptions of which do what? Some are obvious and nothing works better than experimentation, but from a technical standpoint it'd be nice for myself, a novice, to understand exactly what they're doing. I did a brief search for this on the Cow and did not find anything specific so please excuse me if this has been posted already.
Thanks,
Eric M
