You could ask Andrew directly, or look at the trailer a little closer. Look at the polygons during the camera move. When the camera turns you can see the edges of the polygons. This means that they are shapes drawn with the shape tool in CS3 either in a precomp of their own or in the same comp as the text with very little opacity. If you do not have CS3 yet you can import an AI, PSD or PNG file with the same shape or one of your choosing. Just make sure the background is transparent and the layers 3D switch is on, then duplicate and animate the shapes as you like.
