Title Styles

Hey, I'm a newly registered poster so if forgive me if my Creative Cow etiquette is lacking, similar posts already exist etc. I'm a BMX rider and am filming a video over the summer, between college and university. I'd like the video to have its own consistant style throughout, and I really like videos that have flickers and things in, something which I myself have begun to used based on the Film Flash tutorial which I have adapted to meet my own needs. Anyway, with that said, I'd like to put titles of each rider's name in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen as and when a new rider is being shown, but I'm kind of stuck not just for ideas but for the know-how to implement them. I'd like the title to be quick, 1 or 2 seconds transition in, 1 or 2 out, since the action will be reasonably fast paced. I liked the flowing title tutorial a lot, something like that would be great, however I only have the standard version of After Effects 6, my computer is quite dated and cannot handle anything more recent. Anyway, I'd appreciate any thoughts, suggestions etc. without over-complication - anything I'd ever done in After Effects had been discovered by me until I found this site just recently, since then I have followed a few tutorials, but my knowledge is limited really to things I've tried to do myself. Any ideas on how to do the film burn look would be appreciated too, the yellowy orangy flickers and things. Anyway, I hope some of you more experienced and more creative posters can help me out, everything I've seen in the tutorials is amazingly good and this is fast becoming a site I read almost every day!
