[Aaron Bodansky] "it is in MP4 format"

[Rafael Amador] "If FCE can read the files, don't convert them to the AIC."

Well the files Do need to be converted, for two reasons.

1- mp4 files are not proper editing files they are usually h.264 files (never edit h.264 files)
2- FCE can only use the DV and AIC codecs.

Im not sure why you are having bad results with your converted footage, but it does need to be converted. Perhaps some of your settings were wrong then you converted them.
