actually I discovered a work around, sort of. I didn't give all the details in my original post in what I was doing but here it is:
I created a text template in motion to use in final cut. We have pre-made graphical backgrounds that this text must align to and fit in. Thus my need to view the results in my canvas while typing. Toggling the caps lock on and off is a solution, but something I would rather avoid if possible. Doing that thousands of times a day to see my alignment would drive me crazy.
Because I used a Motion template, I'm able to use an 'all caps' parameter on my Motion layer. That solves the problem. Now in Final Cut, as I enter my text in the Motion template in lowercase, it updates my canvas real time all in caps. I don't need to get near that caps lock now!
